Intern Committee
Mission
The mission of the Intern Committee of First Parish Church is to support and advocate for a continuing Intership Program in our parish, to provide support and guidance to the intern, and to facilitate the relationship between the intern and the parish. We believe that an Internship Program benefits the spiritual and organizational life of the parish, and the vitality of Unitarian Universalist ministry.
The committee members for 2008-2009 are Marilyn Christmann and Bonnie Jernigan, co-chairs; Liz Connors,
Alex Pevzner, David Murphy, T.J. Scholberg (youth member) and Miriam Wickham.
History
Since 1987 First Parish Church has supported interns and in 1999 our church voted at annual meeting to be a teaching church, one that offers student ministers the opportunity to serve as interns, learning under the supervision of our own minister. We took a break from this valuable commitment during the interim period after Robbie Walsh retired, as we searched for a new minister. Long-time members may remember how our church life has been enriched as we nurtured and shaped new ministers for our denomination on three different occasions over the past two decades.
Today
We are supporting our current ministerial intern, Carie Johnsen, who is in the
second year of her internship with us and who hopes to be ordained by our church
in Spring 2009. Carie has become an important part of our church life, and we
hope and believe we have contributed materially to her development as a
minister.
