Religious Education

Church School classes end this week

May 18 is Religious Education Sunday (known for decades at FPC as "Balloon Sunday"). On that day, children will worship with their families in the sanctuary. Church School achievements for the year will be celebrated, and we will release colorful balloons (in an environmentally sensitive way). After the service, the annual church school photo will be taken and the all-church picnic will be enjoyed.

For the remaining Sundays of the church year (through June 22), childcare and activities will be offered during the Sunday morning worship time.

Parents, if you have not yet registered your children for next fall's classes, now is the time to do so. A prospectus of courses and registrations forms are available at the church offices. Contact Religious Education Director Sunsue Fleming (781-943-6532 ext. 4, or sunsue@verizon.net.)

"Dancing Our Living Tradition" DVD is now available

Last year, FPC Religious Education Director Sunsue Fleming spent part of her sabbatical creating an instructional video of intergenerational dances suitable for UU worship and ritual. The video is now available as a DVD, with a companion CD of hymns from our "Singing the Living Tradition" hymnal. The easy-to-follow video features eight dances, set to hymns such as "Come, Come, Whoever You Are," "Morning Has Broken" and "I've Got Peace Like a River." No dance training is required to teach or learn the dances. The cost of the DVD and CD is $22, plus $3 for shipping. To order, contact Sunsue by phone during office hours at 781-934-6532 or email her at sunsue@verizon.net.

The video is proving popular with UU ministers and R.E. directors. Sunsue has just returned from England, where she led a workshop based on it at the Elizabeth Tarbox International Religious Education Conference in England this spring. Sunsue's project was supported financially by the Unitarian Sunday School Society and First Parish Church.
