First Parish Staff

Minister,
Catherine Cullen
- Catherine joined us in August, 2004,
bringing an abundance of spiritual energy and practical enthusiasm.
Before coming to First Parish, she served as Interim Minister in Wakefield, R.I., as Summer Minister for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Reading and as a student minister at First Parish Brewster, Massachusetts.
Previously, she was an attorney, political activist, community organizer, elected town official and a sailor (she stills sails!). She and her husband David Cutler have a blended family of six children (and one recently added granddaughter who just happens to be named Catherine). They live in Duxbury with their youngest child, Becky, who loves soccer, swimming, sailing (to her mom's delight) and church school at First Parish Church.
Like many UUs, Catherine made her way to our faith tradition as an
adult, having been raised in the Catholic Church. She understands the
sometimes difficult journey to finding a church home that is spiritual
but not religious in the traditional sense, and she is always available
to talk about how Unitarian Universalism's pluralistic liberal tradition
might fit your spiritual needs.

Ministerial
Intern, Carie Johnsen
Carie will be with us on a
part-time basis through June, 2009, working to develop her skills as
a parish minister. She
is a seminary student at Harvard Divinity School and a candidate
for Unitarian Universalist ordination. Her call to ministry was seeded
in her home congregation, First Parish Church in Brewster, where she has
been an active member for more than 14 years.
Carie describes her journey into ministry as reluctant but inevitable,
reluctant in that she has preferred the less public role of a social
worker, but inevitable in that she has always cared deeply about her
human sisters and brothers and felt drawn to serve them.
She has recently completed a one-year internship with the Unitarian
Universalist Service Committee, where she focused on creating
connections and building bridges between the work of UUSC, the Unitarian
Universalist faith, and the spiritual lives of individual UU’s.
