The Welcoming
Congregation Committee of First Parish Church, Duxbury, was invited by
First Parish Unitarian Universalist in Cohasset, Mass., to participate
in a worship service on January 27, 2008. First Parish Cohasset is not
yet a Welcoming Congregation and is exploring what it needs to do to
become one. Cohasset asked us to explore the topic at their Sunday
service. Jim Hamilton, chair of Duxbury’s Welcoming Congregation
committee, joined Steve Brown and the Rev. Dr. Jan Carlsson-Bull of the
Cohasset church in their pulpit for a dialogue sermon. A sizeable
contingent of First Parish Duxbury friends and members traveled to
Cohasset on a snowy morning for this service. After the service, Jim
Hamilton stayed for a talk-back conversation on the topic of Welcoming
Congregation. He presented a rainbow banner to Steve Brown as a gift
from Duxbury’s Welcoming Congregation committee. |
